Winter ‘Must Do’ Guide

Winter is here at Christchurch! Don’t spend all your time rugged up at home, the crisp, cool days of winter is the perfect time to get out and explore the city.

Sunset adrenaline rush
A zip line experience is amazing at any time of the year, now you can do a Friday evening zipline (from 04.30PM), wrap up warm and soak in the ruby red sunset as you zipline your way along 1.1km’s of New Zealand’s highest zipline!

Retail therapy in the central city
Grab a hot drink and soak up the relaxed central city vibe as you wander the streets and laneways. Browse high-end fashion, well-loved favorites and hunt down one of the city many little boutiques stocking locally-made goods.

Movie night
Snuggle into your seat and enjoy a good movie with good friends: Christchurch have a some great (and slightly different) cinema experiences: check EntX for the ultimate movie going experience – and amazing food options on the ground floor. For the boutique experience go to Alice Cinematheque & Deluxe Cinema and enjoy a wine and a cheese board during the movie!

Ice skating
Christchurch is home to an indoor ice rink perfect for ice skating or playing ice hockey. Whether you’re experienced showing off your pirouette skills or a beginner trying to stay upright, it’s a great indoor activity when the weather’s not playing ball outside. On the weekend be treated to a fast-paced and action-packed New Zealand Ice Hockey League game. Ice Hockey at its best!

Night sky
The night sky in the Southern Hemisphere is astonishing. Because the nights are clearer in winter and it gets darker earlier, it’s a good time of the year to observe the stars. The view from the Godley Head Reserve or Sugarloaf is beautiful and perfect to enjoy the night sky if in the city.

Sunrise at New Brighton Beach
They say the early bird catches the worm and there’s no better way to start the day than enjoying the sunrise at New Brighton Beach. Set the alarm, get up early and be treated to a picture postcard scenery – be sure to take the camera!
