When it comes to mouth-watering dishes, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta is home to some of the city’s best restaurants. Chinese food lovers must by now be familiar with Jia, the hotel’s signature restaurant taking the place of the former Shang Palace.

In Chinese, Jia (Jiǎ) means “home” and also “first.” Much to the delight of diners, Jia serves as home to a line-up of delectable dim sums, sumptuous roasted fare, and well-loved celebrated Chinese dishes. The blend of classic Chinese cuisine and stylish presentation gives each dish a little twist, yet preserves its original recipe.

The food is not the only thing that Jia pays attention to. With Tokyo-based firm Bond taking over its design duties, Jia features contemporary Chinese-inspired interior, an update rather than a departure from tradition. Taking more subdued shades of cobalt and a range of earth colours splashed with a geometric open-faced brick wall feature and modern ornamental wooden panels. The entire space also shines with industrial glass and brass fixtures. The main dining area seats up to 122 guests, while six private dining rooms, named after iconic Chinese flowers, give diners a discreet option that seats up to 20 guests in each room.

Leading the culinary charge at Jia is Executive Chinese Chef Christopher Chai. Chef Chai accumulated a wealth of experience in Chinese cuisine in almost two decades. He aims to serve the best of Chinese cuisine through his scrumptious dishes which are taken from traditional recipes with a modern twist. And that is what you can expect dining at Jia. Both your taste buds and your eyes will be satisfied with the dishes served there.

Jia’s signature dishes include Peking-Style Roasted Duck creations, home-made dim sum, freshly tossed la mien noodles served in big bowls, along with other premium Chinese barbeques, such as Crispy Roast Suckling Pig and live seafood. Guests can experience a unique way of enjoying the signature Roast Duck, as it will be prepared in live open-oven stations in the main dining area. Lunch at Jia will be a feast of dim sum, wherein guests can savour an extensive list of specialty house-made steamed, fried and premium dim sum at brunch.

Jia opens everyday. Weekday lunch and dinner are served from 11.30AM to 02.30PM and from 06 PM to 10.30PM respectively. Weekend lunch is served from 10.30AM to 02.30PM and dinner from 06 PM to 10.30PM
