The Sanchaya

The Sanchaya Bintan commands some of the world’s most stunning beachfront.

Inspired by European Salons of the 18th and 19th centuries, the ‘Small Luxury Hotels of the World’ member cultivates highly refined service standards that pay homage to the attentiveness observed by artisans on a private estate.

Meaning “collection” in Sanskrit, The Sanchaya is home to 21 villas and nine suites, a clubhouse, two restaurants and 24-hour in-villa dining, a bar, wine cellar, wine-cheese-and-cigar lounge, function space, 50-meter long infinity pool, spa, fitness center, beachside yoga pavilion and croquet lawn.

The Sanchaya’s award-winning design melds the elegance of the Orient with European refinement and references Southeast Asia’s rich history and culture in its artwork, antiques, books, and other artifacts and furnishings.

A total of 21 villas and nine suites offer picturesque views of the shimmering ocean, lush gardens and a serene man-made lagoon anchoring the estate’s Thai-themed Lawan Village.

The villas and suites range in size from an ample 55 square meters to a capacious 466 square meters and boast verandas, balconies and terraces, as well as open-style bathrooms with separate Lefroy Brooks clawfoot baths and showers, and walk-in closets.

Featuring neutral, crisp and earthy tones, super king size beds, polished parquet floors and Chinese-style cabinets, each villa and suite is light and airy, and bedecked with rare pieces of art and furnishings carefully chosen to provide glimpses into the captivating histories and cultures of Southeast Asia’s clutch of countries. To further pay tribute to Southeast Asia’s diversity, villas are named after various emblematic flowers from different countries.

The nine suites are situated in the estate’s main building, The Great House, an immaculate two-storey beachfront manor with ample wraparound balconies, gleaming hardwood, and black-and- white panel work.

The Thai-inspired Lawan Village’s seven one-bedroom villas line the lagoon’s banks while the Leelawadee compound features a private pool.

In addition to 12 one and two-bedroom villas that open up to stunning ocean views, the luxurious four-bedroom Presidential Vanda Villa and its private swimming pool epitomizes luxury at its most luxurious.

The Sanchaya is located on Indonesia’s Bintan Island, a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. The taxi ride from the ferry terminal to Changi Airport takes no longer than 15 minutes. Bintan is also easily accessible from Jakarta by plane.

What Singapore lacks in beaches, Bintan Island more than makes up for. The 9.6-hectare Sanchaya estate overlooks the pristine and secluded beachfront at Lagoi Bay reminiscent of the powder white sands at The Maldives. Blanketed in dense tropical rainforest and mangroves, the scenic island basks in a year-round tropical climate averaging 26 degrees Celsius.

The Sanchaya is the only property on Bintan with its own VIP lounge in the ferry terminal, specially created to ensure guests, called ‘residents’, enjoy a seamless arrival and departure experience thanks to express immigration and customs clearance handled by the estate’s staff, referred to as ‘artisans’. For an even more exclusive transfer experience, a yacht is available for private transfers from Singapore to Bintan and private charters and sunset cruises.
