Quayside, Robertson Quay’s forward-thinking community of independent restaurants and bars, will transition towards a plastic-free lifestyle in 2019. The movement is an ongoing initiative that seeks to champion sustainable living, minimize waste and drive a more conscious neighbourhood.
As part of the global conversation surrounding plastic waste problems, Quayside kicks off the long term ‘Plastic Free Quay’ campaign in Singapore this month. As a nation of foodies – a culture which celebrates diverse wining and dining, food delivery and takeaway options – residents and guests are encouraged to remain mindful of the long-term impact their consumerism has on the environment.
The ‘Plastic Free Quay’ campaign is the first community driven initiative of this kind from a Singapore neighbourhood and will be supported by Quayside’s resident establishments; InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay, 1880, Summerlong, Les Bouchons, Publico, Marcello, Ten Sushi & Bar, Three Buns, Super Loco, D.O.P Mozzarella Bar & Restaurant and Wolfgang’s Steakhouse. By joining forces, the Quayside collective hope to accelerate positive change by leading by example and promoting sustainable dining through eco-friendly alternatives within their hotel and restaurant operations.
Guests of Quayside will see changes across the Quay; plastic straws will be replaced with metal straws or biodegradable alternatives that meet suitable paper considerations, and these will only be served upon request. Take-out diners will see food containers and plastic cutlery being replaced with paper alternatives, and on-site diners will see the removal of plastic glassware and a gradual reduction of plastic bags usage.
The next phase of the campaign will see increased proactive recycling efforts. Three Buns have already taken their commitment to sustainability a step further with the usage of upcycled furniture in their interiors and have introduced bamboo dog bowls for the pups of the Quay. With sustainability at the core of its offering, Private Members club 1880 has carefully curated a drinks menu focusing on zero waste closed loop cocktails and Summerlong has a NORDAQ Fresh water filtration, serving unlimited still and sparkling water at a donation of $1 to maintain the system.
The ‘Plastic Free Quayside’ campaign continues to identify new opportunities to start conversations that lead to a positive impact on the world.
