You Don’t Have to be Rich to Travel

We show you how to travel smart.

* Stay close to home
When traveling, you don’t have to fly halfway around the world. It’s amazing what adventures await you within a few hours’ driving time. Staying close to home allows you to spend less money but still have fun. When searching for travel adventures to take, look close to home first. This is one of the easiest ways to travel on a budget.

* Always plan-ahead for travel
Always plan ahead for travel. When you take the time to look for the best rates, you will save money. Usually, the longer you wait, the more expensive things can get. This isn’t always the case, but it is something to keep in mind when trying to travel while on a budget.

* Do your research
Good travel deals are hiding out there; you just need to do your research. Specials are happening all the time, and you just need to find the right special at the right time. These travel locations have a downtime, which means they are working extra hard to offer specials to get people to those destinations.

* Sleep while traveling
When travelling by plane, train, or bus, try and time it so you are traveling at night. That way, you don’t have to pay for a night’s accommodation.

* Walk as much as you can walk.
Get active and see things at a slower pace – walking is FREE. You can experience more just by wandering around a city and getting lost, talking with locals, and people watching. Explore local markets, wander and take photos, or even hike to the top of a hill for an awesome view.

* Travel slow
The slower you move, the cheaper it becomes. On the road, time is money. Buses, trains, and planes add up quickly. Having more time to linger from place to place means you won’t have to pay more for the express option. Slowing down means you get to appreciate where you are: learning the language, becoming a regular at the arepas place down the street, befriending a tour guide who will invite you to his friend’s finca for a weekend for free.
